Rigid by wire, it is somewhat heavier but reinforced, puncture-proof.

This version of the Continental Gatorskin tire is the "rigid" version, meaning it has a rigid wire mounted within the tire´s bead. So, it is NOT foldable. Hope this helps.....

Doesn´t matter much, I use both types. Placing it on the rim is easy with both. Theoretically, a folding tire runs a little lighter, but I don´t see any difference...

Hello, The tire I am looking to replace measures: 40-622 (700 x 38C - 28 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2). I would like to replace the current set of tires with Continental Gator product. QUESTION 1: Could you tell me the difference between Gator Hardshell / Skin / Ultra etc.? I am lost... Question 2: What is the implication / meaning of rigid or flexible? Question 3: Given the measurements I provided above, kindly recommend the best matching gator tire model. Many thanks for your help!

Gatorskin hardshell is having ,better puncture protection. A flexible tyre is good as a spare during long brevets where it can be carried along on the bike. This one here is 28": 700 X 28C (ERTO 28-622 ), weight: 360 g. PolyX Breaker: The extremely resistant polyester fibre is woven tightly crosswise. DuraSkin® sidewall protection: These tires have to be able to roll with the punches. They are used under the harshest conditions.
